Bridge Day is the one day a year that the New River Gorge Bridge, which crosses over the New River Gorge National River, is closed for pedestrians and BASE jumpers to enjoy. The bridge is 876 feet above the New River.  Bridge Day also marks the end of Gauley Season, a six week period that the Summersville Dam is released to allow for some of the best white water rafting in the world.

Second Wild Rock home complete!
published by

The second home at Wild Rock is complete.  Constructed by some of the founding partners of “Class VI River Runners” they have appropriately named this home “The Paddle house.”  This luxury vacation home sits on the rim of the New River Gorge.  The Paddle House was built using green methods and materials, including reclaimed flooring and recycled insulation. To maintain the natural beauty of the wooded setting on the rim of the New River Gorge, the construction crew removed as few trees as possible from the lot to make room for the house. The result is a uniquely situated home in a naturally forested space. The home is a excellent example of sustainability.

Happy Fourth of July Weekend!

Happy Fourth of July!

The New River Gorge is looking to have perfect weather, and what better time for that than this long weekend! Now is a great time to see the flowers blooming, and lush green gorge. Take a swim in the lake, raft, or take a fabulous bike ride through the woods. Whether you are looking for a relaxed weekend, or one full of adrenaline, there is something for you here. With two new restaurants open in the local town of Fayetteville, The Vandalian and The Secret Sandwich Society, the Ice cream shop Swirl offering delicious cones and shakes, the local bakery Wild Flower cooking up some sweets, and Diogis the mexican grill serving up some delicious fish tacos,  there is an abundance of choices for your sunny days, dinner and dessert!

Last year, we planted a seed mixture throughout the property to reclaim some of land that had been disturbed by the road construction. This year we are beginning to see the efforts pay off, as Black Eyed Susan’s, and other wildflowers bloom throughout the property.  Deer can be seen fairly often, as the plant mixture which includes clover, is very appealing to them!

Peregrine Park, the open greenspace located on the property is starting to come to life. The land has been sculpted to fit a volleyball court, bocce ball space, and pavilion. Parking spots have been located and the entire space has been seeded with a hearty grass meant for playing fields. Below is an image of the schematic plan for this area. (Subject to change)

Class Vi Mountain River has much going on this weekend as well. Larry Keel and the Natural Bridge will be playing on Saturday, and rafting and canopy tours will be running all weekend. During your down time, you can grab a cone at “Scoops” the new ice cream shop located on the property. Or perhaps play a game of corn hole with your friends.
